FLAME: GlassRoots' Daytime Entrepreneurial Program
GlassRoots knows that investment in real work experience for vulnerable youth can improve their understanding of the value of education, increase their self-esteem and ambition, while increasing prospects for future employment, whether they are heading to higher education following secondary school or not. To that end, the FLAME Network is a college/work readiness program that highlights Focus, Leadership, Art, Mentoring and Entrepreneurship.
Through the FLAME Network, GlassRoots partners with Greater Newark area high schools who offer during the school day, off-site learning opportunities to their students in grades 9-12. FLAME is a unique program grounded in a work-readiness frame with glassworking at its core. This program includes instruction in basic business concepts, glassmaking instruction in GlassRoots’ three studios and service-learning, The FLAME program takes place during the academic school year on Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm.
