GlassRoots knows that investment in real work experience for vulnerable youth can improve their understanding of the value of education, increase their self-esteem and ambition, while increasing prospects for future employment, whether they are heading to higher education following secondary school or not. To that end, the FLAME Network is a college/work readiness program that highlights Focus, Leadership, Art, Mentoring and Entrepreneurship. Through the FLAME Network, GlassRoots partners with Greater Newark area high schools to offer students in grades 9-12 a unique program grounded in a work-readiness frame with glassworking at its core. This program includes the Business & Entrepreneurship training, service-learning, and is only for students who are permitted to leave their school during the day. The FLAME program takes place Wednesdays, 10am to 3pm.
