We're excited to be launching our Healing Hurt program in conjunction with our mental health partners from University Hospital in Newark. After more than a year of planning, and more trauma than we could have imagined. our trauma-informed programming is more than timely. The Healing Hurt Workshop at GlassRoots will function as an adjunct to ongoing therapy with LCSW staff at UHVIP.
GlassRoots will rely on UHVIP staff to choose participants appropriate for the program and GlassRoots and UHVIP staff will collaborate to create program evaluation instruments and protocols. Participants will learn basic techniques for creating artistic pieces with glass. The processes of working with cold and hot glass to form beads, mosaics, fused plates and blown vessels will be taught through live demonstrations and hands-on instruction in each GlassRoots glass shops - the flameshop, flatshop, and hotshop. Through this program, and together with their therapeutic work at the Hospital, we hope to rebuild resilience, communication, cooperation and collaboration for this community so in need of each of these skills.
