FLAT SHOP In this studio, glassware is created by setting small colored pieces of glass into a design or pattern, which are then bonded together using cement grout, for mosaics, or fused together in a kiln (oven). Various shapes are achieved by slumping the glass into or over a mold.
FLAME SHOP In this studio, glassware is created by melting thin rods of colored glass over a gas-oxygen torch. Small tools are used to shape and form the glass into varying shapes, including glass beads for creating jewelry. This method is referred to as “flamework,” “lampwork,” or “torchwork”.
HOT SHOP CLASSES (GLASSBLOWING) In this studio, art and functional glassware is created by blowing air through a tube or pipe to manipulate and shape molten glass. Glassblowing classes are for participants ages 14 and up. Required skill level is noted for each class.
